SuperSport United registered their first DStv Premiership win in 2024 with a 1-0 victory away to Royal AM on Wednesday night.

Matsatsantsa made wholesale changes to the side that lost against Kaizer Chiefs, as the likes of Terrence Dzvukamanja, Etiosa Ighodaro, Lyle Lakay and Onismor Bhasera were recalled while goalkeeper Ricardo Goss returned from suspension.

Royal AM, on the other hand, recalled Menzi Masuku and Mzwandile Dlamini as two changes from the hammering by Orlando Pirates.

The sides looked to combine going forward and created chances in the opening exchanges but they were not accurate in front of goal.

Thabo Matlaba only came close to breaking the deadlock for the hosts on the half-hour mark with a low drive from the edge of the box that was saved in the bottom corner by Goss.

However, the pace of the game slowed down in the closing stages of the first stanza and the sides went to the break without goals.

Neither side could create clear opportunities 1from the interval and just after the hour-mark, Gavin Hunt reacted with an attacking change, as Bradley Grobler replaced Ighodaro for fresh legs up top.

United started to attack with more intensity as five minutes later Siphesihle Ndlovu came close with a strike in the box that flashed just wide.

SuperSport's pressure finally paid off five minutes before time after Grobler slammed home a low shot after turning well in the box.

Confirmed line-ups:

Royal AM: Mpoto, Matlaba, Mabuza, Jiyane, Masuku, Mahlasela, Dlamini, Magaqa, Shezi, Maxwele, George
