TS Galaxy have slammed Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena over what they believe to be claims that The Rockets head coach may have incited his players to target Downs midfielder Bongani Zulu in their DStv Premiership clash on Tuesday.

Downs walked away 3-0 winners at Loftus Stadium against Galaxy with goals from Thembinkosi Lorch and a Peter Shalulile brace.

However, the contest was immediately followed by controversial comments made Downs coach Mokwena in his post match interviews, in which the 37-year-old expressed his disappointed with a reckless tackle made on Downs midfielder Bongani Zungu and further seemingly implied that he had information that midfielder Zungu had been targeted by TS Galaxy players.

"I'm disappointed with the tackle on Bongani Zungu, very disappointed,” Mokwena said on SuperSportTV after the match.

"Because I was told already last night that the coach on the opposition showed that tackle that Bongani Zungu did on Bernard Parker and said 'don't forget what Bongani Zungu did'

On Tuesday morning, Galaxy have hit back at Mokwena through a club statement published on the club’s social platforms. Galaxy claim Mokwena ‘lied’ and threatened to take the matter to court.

"TS Galaxy FC takes serious exception to the comments made by @Masandawana coach Rhulani Mokoena, insinuating that our Head Coach instigated the injury suffered by Sundowns player Bongani Zungu during our match last night," the statement read.

"Mokoena lied blatantly through his teeth which we deem to be serious embarrassment to our game never mind the Club that he represents.

"If Mokoena still believes in his own lies, we are now calling him out publicly to prove his claim within 24 hours, failing which our Club and our Coach will assert their rights in law!"
