A former Egypt star claims the African Football League disrupted Al Ahly's season after the criticism directed at coach Marcel Koller.

The defending CAF Champions League go into Friday's Club World Cup clash against Al Ittihad with one in their last five matches across all competitions.

Africa Cup of Nations winner Mido is confident Koller's side will get the win on Friday night.

“I think Al Ahly will make it through,” Mido told ON Time Sports.

“The criticism that Marcel Koller is getting is unfair.

“Their participation in the African Football League at the start of the season hurt the team and forced the manager to constantly rotate players.”

Meanwhile, Egypt international Ahmed Hegazi says the Egyptian Red Devils remain the best team in Africa.

“There are no easy games in the tournament,” Hegazi told SSC Sport.

“Even the Auckland game wasn’t an easy win.

“The next match will be a very tough and important game between Al Ahly, the best team in Africa, and Al Ittihad, the best team in Asia.

"It’s going to be a highly anticipate Arab affair, and I hope we can win and make our fans happy.”
